Heating and cooling rebates in Victoria

Save on energy-efficient systems with government incentives

If you’re considering upgrading your heating or cooling system in Geelong or surrounding suburbs such as Newtown, Lorne, Belmont, Highton, Hamlyn Heights, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Torquay or Pt Lonsdale, understanding rebates and discounts available under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program can help make your investment more affordable.

The VEU program is a state government initiative that offers upfront discounts on energy-efficient appliances and systems to help households and businesses lower energy bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Rebates apply when you replace older, less efficient heating and cooling equipment with newer, high-efficiency alternatives.

What rebates are available?

Under the VEU program, you can receive discounts when installing approved energy-efficient heating and cooling systems. These typically include reverse-cycle air conditioners and other high-efficiency space heating and cooling systems.

Depending on the type of system you are replacing and the new system you choose:

  • Households can claim discounts of up to around $1,610 when replacing an old gas space heater with an efficient reverse-cycle air conditioner.
  • Larger replacements, such as removing and replacing a ducted gas heater with an efficient reverse cycle air conditioner, can offer discounts up to around $5,530.
  • Discounts are available for both residential and business installations, and rental properties may also be eligible with cooperation between landlords and tenants.

The exact rebate amount will vary depending on your existing system and the efficiency and size of the new system, as well as whether the installation is completed by an accredited provider under the VEU program, such as Green Energy Trading, Middleton’s accredited provider.

Why take advantage of rebates?

Upgrading to energy-efficient systems not only reduces your upfront installation costs through government discounts, but also lowers ongoing energy bills and improves comfort year-round. Rebates can make high-efficiency heating and cooling solutions more affordable, with the added benefit of reducing your carbon footprint.
